Weight varies by category — quilting cotton averages 130–150 GSM, anti-pill fleece is around 200 GSM, upholstery weights range from 8 oz to 24 oz per linear yard, and blackout fabric is a heavy 380–420 GSM triple-weave. Joanns yarn spans the full Craft Yarn Council weight system, from lace (1) through jumbo (7). Bernat Blanket is a super bulky 6, Red Heart Super Saver is a worsted 4, Lion Brand Wool-Ease is worsted 4, and our chunky and cotton lines cover 3, 4 and 5 weights. Each label lists the recommended hook (from 3.5 mm up through 25 mm) and knitting needle size (US 3 through US 50). Gauge swatch information is printed on every ball band so projects come out on-size.

Yes — Joanns Simplicity, McCall’s and Butterick patterns are drafted to industry-standard seam allowances (5/8″ for apparel, 1/4″ for quilting) and work on every domestic sewing machine, including all Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina and Juki models. Presser feet are universal low-shank, needles are 130/705H flat-shank system, and bobbin sizes are the standard Class 15 or L-style. Pattern envelopes list fabric requirements in both 45″ and 60″ widths.

All three are cozy but engineered differently. Fleece is a knit polyester with a brushed pile — light, warm, anti-pill treated, and does not fray, so edges can be left raw. Minky is a plush knit polyester with a longer pile (typically 3–5 mm) and a silky face; it’s stretchier and requires walking-foot sewing to prevent shifting. Flannel is a plain-weave 100% cotton, brushed on one or both sides, that shrinks 5–8% on first wash and frays like standard cotton. Choose fleece for no-sew blankets, minky for baby items with a soft face, and flannel for pajamas, shirts and rustic quilts.

Yes. Fabric is sold in 1/2-yard minimum increments and cut in 1/4-yard steps (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, and up). Cuts are continuous — a 3-yard order arrives as a single 108″ length, not three separate pieces. Cutting is done with calibrated rotary blades along the grain, and cut length is verified to within ±1/2″ of the ordered amount. Bolts are refreshed regularly and dye-lot information is tracked so multiple yards on one order come from the same lot when possible.
